Why Choose Certified Organic Fruit, Vegetables & Herbs from Pickering Family Farm
We all want to put the best on the table for the people we love
When we shop for our families, we're doing more than filling the fridge. We're choosing the ingredients that will become school lunches, family dinners, weekend breakfasts and all those little moments shared around the table.
We want our children to grow up enjoying fresh, nourishing food without hidden chemicals that can impact us in damaging ways that we are only just beginning to understand.
We want to feel good about what we're serving, and we'd like to know a little more about where it comes from and how it's grown. For many families, that means starting to ask more questions about their fruit and vegetables.
A recent report has given us more to think about
A new report released by Pesticide Action Australia in October 2026 has brought renewed attention to pesticide residues on Australian supermarket produce.
The organisation tested 78 samples across 13 types of fruit and vegetables purchased from Coles, Woolworths and Aldi stores in five Australian cities. The report identified multiple pesticide residues across the samples, raising questions about pesticide use, monitoring and transparency.
It's important to keep the findings in perspective: this was a snapshot of selected produce, not a comprehensive assessment of every fruit and vegetable sold in Australia. Nevertheless, it's an opportunity to have a thoughtful conversation about how our food is grown and the choices available to us.
You can read the Australia's Residue Report 2026 for the full findings.

And no, this isn't about becoming fearful of the food we eat. Fresh fruit and vegetables remain an important part of a healthy diet. It's about having the information we need to make choices that feel right for our households.
What does choosing organic mean for your family?
Organic food appeals to many people because of the way it's produced.
Certified organic farming follows defined standards that restrict the use of many synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, with an emphasis on caring about the soil, supporting farming practices that work with nature, and thinking more carefully about the food system we want to support.
For us, it's about making thoughtful choices wherever we can. It’s one way we reduce our family’s exposure to synthetic pesticides, including PFAS (forever chemicals), which have been linked to hormone disruption, infertility and an increased risk of certain cancers.
Small changes can make a difference
Eating well doesn't have to mean changing everything overnight or buying every item on your shopping list organically. You might start with the fruit your children eat every day, the vegetables you use most often in family meals, or a few seasonal favourites.
You could also explore what's available each week and build your menu around the produce that's in season.
The goal isn't perfection. It's finding practical ways to bring more of the food you feel good about into your home, within your family's budget and routine.
Because feeding our families well should feel positive and achievable, not overwhelming.
